Comparison Shopping Engine

What is a Comparison Shopping Engine?
A comparison shopping engine (CSE) collects the same product from many retailers and lists the competing offers side by side, usually sorted by total delivered price. Google Shopping is the largest; Idealo, Geizhals, Kelkoo and PriceRunner hold strong positions in individual European markets. Shoppers reach them as a final price check, which makes a CSE a high-intent but low-loyalty channel.

Retailers appear on a CSE by submitting a product feed — a structured file carrying title, GTIN, price, shipping cost and stock for every SKU. The engine matches that feed against its own catalogue, so feed quality decides everything: a missing or wrong GTIN means the offer is never matched to the right product page, and a stale price means the listing is rejected or the click is spent on an offer the shopper cannot actually buy.

Because most engines rank primarily on delivered price, a CSE is also a live read on where a retailer sits against its competitors. Teams that monitor their own listings alongside rivals' see undercutting the moment it happens rather than in the following month's sales report — the same signal that comparison shopping engines covers in depth.
