What Is Price Intelligence?
Price intelligence is the practice of collecting competitor pricing data at scale and turning it into decisions — which products to reprice, by how much, and when. It covers the full path from raw observed prices, through product matching and normalization, to the recommendation a pricing manager acts on.
The distinction that matters is between data and intelligence. A feed of competitor prices is data. Knowing that a given competitor cuts prices within four hours of your own moves, on 60% of your top category, and that matching them would cost more margin than it recovers in volume — that is intelligence.
Price Intelligence vs. Price Monitoring
Price monitoring answers what a competitor's price is. Price intelligence answers what you should do about it. Monitoring is a data collection problem; intelligence is an interpretation layer built on top of it.
Most teams start with monitoring, accumulate months of history, then discover the data is hard to act on: prices are attached to the wrong products, promotional prices are mixed in with list prices, and nobody can say which competitor actually leads the market. Price intelligence software closes that gap with matching accuracy, price-type classification, and reaction analysis.
- Monitoring: current competitor prices, stock, and promotions per SKU
- Intelligence: who leads price moves, who follows, and how quickly
- Intelligence: which price changes moved volume and which only cost margin
- Intelligence: price positioning of your assortment against the market, by category
What a Price Intelligence Tool Should Deliver
The value of any price intelligence tool is bounded by the quality of its product matching. If your 500 ml shampoo is matched to a competitor's 400 ml bottle, every downstream index, elasticity estimate, and recommendation inherits that error.
Senkrondata matches products with AI even when EAN or barcode data is missing and titles, images, and attributes disagree — then layers reaction analysis, price indices, and recommendations on a foundation you can trust.
- Product matching that works without barcodes, reported with confidence scores
- Separation of list price, promotional price, and shipping-inclusive price
- Price index and positioning by category, brand, and competitor
- Reaction timing: which competitors respond to your moves, and how fast
- Recommendations that state the margin and volume trade-off explicitly
Competitor Price Intelligence in Practice
A competitor price intelligence solution earns its place when it changes a decision. In practice that means three recurring workflows: daily repricing on a fast-moving subset, weekly positioning review across the long tail, and event-driven response during promotional peaks.
Alerts route to the people who act on them. A threshold breach on a hero SKU goes to the category manager, a systematic undercut across a brand goes to the pricing lead, and API exports feed the repricing engine directly.
- Daily: automated repricing on high-velocity SKUs within your margin floor
- Weekly: assortment-level positioning against named competitors
- Event-driven: promotional peaks, stock-outs, and Buy Box shifts
