Product Matching

What is Product Matching?
Product matching is the process of identifying that two listings on different websites refer to the same real-world product, so their prices can be meaningfully compared. It is the hardest and most consequential step in price monitoring: comparing your 55-inch TV against a competitor's 50-inch model produces confidently wrong pricing decisions.

Matching uses several signals in combination: exact identifiers (GTIN, EAN, UPC, MPN) where available, title and attribute analysis with NLP, image similarity models, and price-plausibility checks. Marketplaces add complications — multiple sellers per listing, bundles, multipacks, and variant structures (size, color) all must be resolved.

Match quality is measured by precision (matched pairs really are the same product) and coverage (share of catalog with at least one competitor match); serious providers report both and route uncertain matches to human review.
