Stock Availability Monitoring
What is Stock Availability Monitoring?
Stock availability monitoring is the automated tracking of whether products are in stock, low, or out of stock across competitor sites, marketplaces, and a brand's own resellers. Availability data is collected alongside price in most monitoring pipelines and is often the more actionable of the two signals.
Competitor stock-outs are direct revenue opportunities: when a rival cannot ship a popular product, temporarily reducing your discount on that item preserves margin without losing sales — and advertising spend on it converts better. Conversely, monitoring your own resellers' availability reveals distribution problems and lost-sales exposure that never appear in sell-in numbers.
Availability history also feeds demand estimation: how often and how long a competitor's product goes out of stock is a proxy for its sales velocity.
